Discussion Lists

Last updated Sunday, April 02, 2023.

What follows is a list of various discussion lists on the web devoted to the Renaissance cittern and other metal-strung, plucked instruments.

"Cittern.ning" Cittern Networking Site

Doc Rossi started the Ning discussion forum for cittern builders, players, enthusiasts, etc. The forum is free, easy to use, and highly recommended (and is probably the premier cittern networking site out there). Citterns of all types welcome! http://cittern.ning.com

The "Cittern Builders" List

The cittern-builders' forum was started on this site specifically for those who are interested in discussing in-depth the process of building a cittern and woodworking tips in general. The list is open to both builders and the curious, alike. The range of topics includes other related instruments from the 12th through the 20th centuries, but the focus of discussion is primarily on the Renaissance cittern.

The old list has been superceded by the "Building and Construction " group on the cittern.ning.com list. To join, simply follow the link above, then join the "Building and Construction" group on the left-hand side of the page.

The Dartmouth Cittern Discussion List

For more information on the Renaissance cittern and other related metal-strung plucked instruments, consider joining the Cittern Discussion List sponsored by Wayne Cripps of Dartmouth University. The discussion list is for historical cittern players, makers and scholars and serves to provide a place for the discussion of all matters pertaining to historical citterns and related instruments, and their music. The subject matter ranges from 16th to 21st(!) century citterns.

The [Modern] Cittern Mailing List

A mailing list for those who want to talk about the modern incarnation of the cittern and related instruments, as they are currently used in (mostly) Celtic folk music. This group is sponsored through Yahoo at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/cittern/. Information on how to sign up can also be found at http://home.hccnet.nl/h.speek/bouzouki/cit_list.html.

Majordomo Cittern List

There may be another majordomo-based (modern?) cittern list. For more information, see http://www.oakwoodinstruments.co.uk/four/link.htm.
